History

From its origin of more than a century ago to today's latest products, Sensus has maintained its place as a measure of the future — a global leader on utility management. Basing its roots first as the undisputed leading meter provider in the water industry, the company continued to provide innovative information systems with development of real world, proven solutions in gas and then electric meters.

The original name of our company, Pittsburgh Equitable Meter Company, was born from original owners, the Rockwell family, which established the company's original — and current — base in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. Millions of meters and decades of industry leadership later, company diversification led growth into the gas meter and valve operations, which was purchased by a London-based company. The transition saw the name also evolve into Invensys Metering Systems.

A few years later, still on the heels of yet more industry advancements based on significant understanding of the demands placed on modern utility companies, another purchase agreement led to the name of Sensus Metering Systems.

Today, Sensus provides real world, proven solutions of high-value metering, Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system solutions for water, gas, electric and heat utilities. Sensus continues to be the measure of the future, having one of the largest installed AMI bases in the world. We are a global leader that aggressively pushes the boundaries of utility management with innovative communication systems that enable customers to intelligently utilize their resources with unprecedented efficiency.
